See more of the Middlecave work here!
Insulation! Framing! Concrete Blocks! Breathable Membranes! Yes people, it’s time for another exciting look at the demolition and rebuilding of the former farm at Middlecave Yard!

From Middlecave Road

The site as seen from the junction of Middlecave Road and Victoria Road. The new block – while just as high as. the existing outbuilding – is really starting to loom over the streetscape.

…and from the junction of Middlecave Road and Spital Field Court
The Existing Outbuilding

For the first time in a while there looks to be activity with the retained outbuilding.

The two doors are tarped up. A new concrete floor also looks to have been cast.

The window is also sealed.

The roof window remains as it has been since the start of this blog series.
The Courtyard

The future courtyard remains in use as a storage area.

Insulation

Wood and sand.
The Building from Middlecave Road

Insulation, water barrier, and framing for the cladding has been installed around the parts of the building that will have modern cladding installed. Unsurprisingly, the ducting for the various utilities looks to have been left untouched since it was installed.

Internal framing with insulation visible.

Supplies. This part of the building looks quite large in person.

Block wall against the Middlecave Road. On the original plans this was to be retained brick wall.

Block wall with wire ties to hold the front bricks and insulation together.

Close-up of the top of block wall against Middlecave Road.

Block wall at the east corner. The grey material between the block wall and the outer layer of bricks appears to be a form of insulation.

From Back Lane

The courtyard from Back Lane near the entrance to Sainsbury’s car park.

Another view of the courtyard’s pile of supplies.

More framing with the moisture barrier behind it.

Insulation under the roof. It’s also reasonable to assume that there will be a some kind of fascia board added as construction progresses.

More vapour barrier with framing abutting Back Lane.

Back Lane again. It’s notable that there seem to be two deviations from the plans as submitted here – the first is a missing ground floor window near where the scaffolding can be seen, the second is the presence of a roof light

A close-up of the rooflight.

An excerpt from the plan showing the missing ground floor window and what should be an unadulterated area where the roof light is.
And that’s all for now. Do come back soon!
