The Middlecave Yard Demolition and Rebuild – Early May 2026

See more of the Middlecave work here!

Join me as we cross the rubicon and find out just which windows have been installed at… the May edition of the Middlecave Yard Demolition and Rebuild!

The Site Plan

A copy of the site plan so you can orientate yourself with what’s already been build and what’s still to come.

From Middlecave Road

The site from the corner of Middlecave Road and Victoria Road. Though still incomplete, the windowless wall of the left hand wing already looms over the path next to it.

And from the junction of Middlecave Road and  Spital Field Court.

The Existing Outbuilding

Both of the ground floor doors have now been installed. For the outbuilding this now leaves glazing to be installed for the ground floor window…

…and the first floor hayloft door.

The Courtyard

The courtyard remains a storage yard for various resources. It’s likely that paving the courtyard will be one of the last jobs on this build.

At the edge of the courtyard you can see that windows and doors for the new build have been installed. The previously seen insulation boards have now also been covered with cladding.

There’s no change with the ducting for the utilities.

A stock of insulation and a portaloo taken from Back Lane.

The Building from Middlecave Road

The south-west end of the new building. There remains quite a lot of block-work to do before the void is filled.

A close-up of the south-west end of the new building.

The north-west side of the new building. The block work is almost complete (bar a spot in the top-right of this picture) and brickwork and insulation continues to be added. Spaces for skylights and what appears to be a vent of some kind – possibly for either a boiler or waste pipe – have been cut into the roof.

Block work with ties for the future brickwork and insulation.

Three of the voids for the future skylights.

A close-up of one of the voids. You can see where the skylight unit will be mounted.

The vent.

From Back Lane

Cladding and windows have been installed on the east side of the new building.

A close-up of the partially installed cladding. Note the mitre’d joints.

Windows and doors.

A better shot of a door. this particular door will face the main gate to the yard from Middlecave Road.

Another door. This one will face the gate from Back Lane/Sainsburys.

The Cladding runs up to the roofline. I’ve yet to see any evidence of guttering so this is likely to be installed towards the end of the build.

The north-east side of the building from Back Lane. While there is some cladding on the northern end of these walls, most of it has yet to be started with the bare frame showing above the insulation boards below.

Our unexpected skylight.

The partially clad north end. This appears to be the area where the cladders are currently working.

A reverse shot of the north end. Towards the top right you can just see a second smaller vent poking out of the roof.

And that’s all for now. Do come back soon!
