The BBC’s Youtube archive has an interesting film on traditional rope-making in Hawes from 1977.
It looks like Peter & Ruth Annison managed to keep ‘W. R. Outhwaite and Son’ running as a going concern until 2022 when the business closed. A couple of former employees then opened up a phoenix business called ‘Askrigg Ropemakers’ to carry on the trade.
